Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 87 Tests

UN ECE R87 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of daytime running lights in L, M, N and T category vehicles.

UN / ECE R 87 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation No. 87 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of daytime running lamps for electric vehicles and the tests applied accordingly.

According to the regulation, 'Daytime running light' means a forward-facing light used to make the vehicle more visible during daytime driving. Daytime running lights shall be designed and constructed in such a way that they continue to operate satisfactorily despite the vibration to which they may be subjected in normal use and maintain the specifications set forth in this regulation.

All photometric and colorimetric measurements should be made with a colorless standard filament lamp of the category specified for the device, the supply voltage is regulated to produce the required reference luminous flux for that lamp category when not supplied by an electronic device.

During the heat endurance test, the lamp must be tested for one hour of continuous operation after a 20-minute warm-up period. The ambient temperature will be 23 °C ± 5°. The filament lamp used must be a filament lamp of the category specified for the lamp and must be supplied with a current at a voltage to give the average power specified at the relevant test voltage.

For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
