ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation No. 72 (UN/ECE) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of the headlights of motorcycles equipped with asymmetrical and high beam emitting halogen lamps and the tests applied accordingly.

This Regulation is intended for the approval of headlights equipped with halogen filament lamps (HS1 lamps) provided for the equipment of motorcycles and vehicles treated in this way.

Headlights must be designed and manufactured in such a way that, in normal use, they will continue to operate satisfactorily, despite the vibration to which they may be subjected, and maintain the characteristics set forth in this Regulation. Light degrees must be in accordance with the dimensions specified in the regulation.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
