UN ECE R128 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles in the categories specified in the regulation in terms of light emitting diode (LED) equipment.

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.
Regulation 128 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of light-emitting diode (LED) light sources for use in approved lamp units in powered vehicles and their trailers, and the tests performed accordingly.
This Regulation applies to LED light sources intended for use in approved signal light units of motor vehicles and their trailers.
Each sample submitted will comply with the relevant requirements of this Regulation;
During tests, LED light sources will first be aged at test voltages for at least forty-eight hours. For multi-functional LED light sources, each function will be aged separately. Unless otherwise specified, electrical and photometric measurements should be made at the relevant test voltage(s). Electrical measurements specified in Annex 4 should be made with instruments of at least 0,2 class (0,2% full scale accuracy).
Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
