UN ECE R117 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of tires in the categories specified in the regulation.

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.
Regulation 117 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of tires and the tests performed in relation to rolling noise emissions and adhesion to wet surfaces and/or rolling resistance.
This Regulation applies to new air tires of Class C1, C2 and C3 in terms of noise emissions, rolling resistance, and new air tires of Class C1 in terms of adhesion performance on wet surfaces (wet adhesion). However, it does not apply to:
The tests must use new test tyres that have not previously been used in a rolling deflection test and have not previously been exposed to a temperature above that produced in the rolling resistance tests.
Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
