UN ECE R148 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles and trailers in the categories specified in the regulation in terms of light signal equipment.

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.
Regulation 148 (UN/ECE) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe — Covers the uniform provisions for the approval of light signal devices (lamps) for powered vehicles and their trailers and the tests applied accordingly.
This Regulation applies to the following lamps:
The requirements for each lamp and for the vehicle category(s) for which the lamp is intended to be installed will apply where verification is possible at the time of lamp type approval.
Lamps must be designed and constructed in such a way that they are guaranteed to operate satisfactorily under normal conditions of use and regardless of the vibrations to which they may be subjected, and to maintain the specifications set forth in this regulation. The light source(s) holder must conform to the specifications given in IEC Publication 60061.
Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
