Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 114 Tests

UN ECE R114 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of the airbag equipment of vehicles in the categories specified in the regulation.

UN / ECE R 114 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 114 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE), uniform provisions regarding the approval of the following covers the tests applied accordingly:

  • I. Airbag Module for Backup Airbag System;
  • II. Spare Steering Wheel equipped with Approved Type Airbag Module;
  • III. A Backup Airbag System different from the one fitted to the Steering Wheel.

This regulation applies to aftermarket equipment as follows:

  • Airbag modules for replacement airbag systems designed to be installed in motor vehicles;
  • Spare steering wheel for vehicles of category M 1 and N 1, equipped with an approved type of airbag module and intended to be installed as an additional locking system, in addition to seat belts and other locking systems in motor vehicles, i.e. to reduce the severity of injuries to the driver and passengers in the event of an impact a system that automatically releases a flexible structure designed for
  • In motor vehicles of categories M 1 and N 1, in addition to seat belts and other locking systems, backup airbag systems equipped with steering-mounted airbag modules of the type approved as supplementary locking systems are a flexible airbag system designed to reduce the severity of injuries to the driver and passengers in the event of a crash. a system that automatically releases the build.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
