UN ECE R32 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles in the categories specified in the regulation in case of a possible rear-end collision.

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.
Regulation 32 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of the structure of the affected vehicle in the event of a rear-end collision and the tests applied accordingly.
This Regulation applies to vehicles of category M1 in terms of their behavior in a rear-end collision. For the approval of the vehicle, it is tested whether the passenger compartment provides the necessary safety in a possible collision.
The main purpose of the regulation is to ensure that passenger safety in motor vehicles is ensured with the necessary tests. For the vehicle to be approved, it must be proven, after all tests, with or without a dummy, that the passenger compartment does not present a serious risk of injury.
Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
