ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 63 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions regarding the noise-related approval of two-wheeled mopeds and the tests applied accordingly.

Measurements should not be made in bad weather conditions. Precautions will be taken to ensure that the readings are not affected by wind gusts. For measurement purposes, the weighted sound level (A) of the sound produced by the sources and wind effect on the test vehicle must be at least 10 dB(A) below the noise level produced by the vehicle.

A suitable windscreen may be attached to the microphone, provided that the sensitivity of the microphone and its effect on directional characteristics are taken into account.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
