Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 42 Tests

UN ECE R42 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles in terms of front and rear protective equipment (bumper and similar).

UN / ECE R 42 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 42 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of the front and rear protective devices of vehicles and the tests applied accordingly.

This Regulation applies to the behavior of certain parts of the front and rear structure of passenger cars in the event of a low speed collision. External protection is provided mainly by protective devices, which are elements located at the front and rear ends of vehicles and designed to allow contact and minor impacts to occur without causing serious damage.

The surfaces of the protective devices at the front and rear ends of the vehicle that are most likely to come into contact with other objects should be covered or made of rubber or equivalent material with a hardness not exceeding 60 Shore A.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
