Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 143 Tests

UN ECE R143 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles in the categories specified in the regulation in terms of Heavy Duty Dual Fuel Engine Retrofit Systems (HDDF-ERS).

UN / ECE R 143 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 143 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of Heavy Duty Dual Fuel Engine Boost Systems (HDDF-ERS) to be installed on heavy duty diesel engines and vehicles, and the tests applied accordingly.

This Regulation aims for a Heavy Duty Dual Fuel Engine Boost System (HDDF-ERS) to comply with the specified emission level. The engine boost system includes the devices and components necessary to operate a vehicle in dual fuel mode, but reference is made to safety Regulations 67 (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and 110 (Compressed Natural Gas/Liquefied) for safety provisions.

This Regulation provides uniform provisions to assist national vehicle approval and registration authorities in the approval of diesel engine heavy-duty vehicles (trucks and buses) retrofitted to operate as a dual-fuel vehicle.

Dual fuel is an operating mode that allows the after-mounted diesel engine to operate simultaneously with diesel fuel and a gaseous fuel, to measure both fuels separately, and in which the amount of one fuel consumed relative to the other can vary.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
