AM18 - NF D60-013 Flammability Test for Seat

AM18 - NF D60-013 Flammability Test for Seat

In the ERP regulations for French public buildings, some changes have been made to the building interiors. These changes are published as interior equipment (Aménagements Intérieurs AM). Article AM18 of this regulation deals with tests for seats in cinemas: Protocol for assessing the flammability of upholstered seats - Ignition source equivalent to a 20 gram burning paper pad - Covers and upholstery. This standard is based on the draft EN 1021-3 standard, which was not eventually accepted as a European standard.

AM18 - NF D60-013 Flammability Test for Seat

Briefly, the NF D60-013 standard describes the flammability requirements for seats and defines a test method.

The standards referenced in the preparation of this standard are:

  • EN 1021-1 Furniture - Evaluation of flammability of upholstered furniture - Part 1: Smoldering cigarette for ignition source
  • EN 1021-2 Furniture - Evaluation of flammability of upholstered furniture - Part 2: Ignition source matches flame equivalent
  • Pr EN 1021-3 Fire test of upholstered furniture
  • NFPA 267 Standard test method for fire characteristics of bearings and bearing assemblies exposed to a source of flame ignition
  • TB 117-2013 Requirements, test procedure and apparatus for testing the fire resistance of materials used in upholstered furniture
  • BS 7176 Specification for resistance to ignition of upholstered furniture for non-domestic sofas by testing composites
  • BS 5852 Test methods for evaluating the flammability of upholstered seats with smoldering and smoldering ignition sources
  • UIC 564-2 Appendix 13 Test method for determining the fire resistance of seats

In short, the NF D60-013 standard contains a protocol for evaluating the flammability of upholstered furniture. The described test method aims to assess the fire behavior of filling/envelope combinations used for upholstered seats when exposed to an ignition source equivalent to a burning 20-gram paper pillow.

Filled materials are a significant risk factor in every application area, particularly in public transportation and public buildings. Indeed, foam is a highly flammable material that contributes significantly to fire spread. Fire-retardant properties are imparted to filled materials in various ways: textile coverings, coatings, fire-resistant barriers, and foam, for example.

Our organization also provides flammability test services for seats within the scope of NF D60-013 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
