UL 94 Standard for Flammability Tests of Plastic Materials for Parts in Appliances and Appliances

UL 94 Standard for Flammability Tests of Plastic Materials for Parts in Appliances and Appliances

In advanced laboratories, a plastic material is tested not only to minimum safety standards, but also to the highest standards in the industry. Testing and certification of polymeric materials in the plastics industry is carried out in accordance with global standards. These tests and certifications aim to reduce the risks of fire, electric shock, personal injury and environmental hazards. Manufacturers dealing with compounding, extrusion and injection molding, raw material manufacturers and automotive companies and suppliers need these tests.

Evaluation of plastic materials includes determination of material flammability (combustion properties), ignition characteristics from various thermal and electrical sources, and electrical monitoring. Additional electrical properties and analytical testing are also performed. Protection of the product after prolonged exposure to high temperature (air-oven aging), water, ultraviolet light, cold and other external influences is considered.

There are two preselection test programs conducted on plastic materials to measure their flammability properties. The first program determines the material's tendency to extinguish or spread the flame after the sample has been ignited. This program is in the UL 94 standard developed by Underwriters Laboratories. This program is designed in accordance with IEC 60707, 60695-11-10, 60695-11-20, ISO 9772 and 9773 standards.

The second program measures the ignition resistance of the plastic to electrical ignition sources. The material's ignition resistance and surface tracing properties are defined in the UL 60112A standard, similar to the test procedures described in the IEC 60695, 60950 and 746 standards.

Plastic products need to be tested to ensure they meet a very specific set of regulatory safety and quality standards.

The requirements described in the UL 94 standard cover flammability tests of polymeric materials used for devices and parts in devices. They are intended to serve as a preliminary indicator of their flammability acceptability for a particular application. The methods described include standard sized samples and are intended for use only to measure and describe the flammability properties of materials used in devices and appliances in response to a small open flame or radiant heat source under controlled laboratory conditions.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides flammability testing services for plastic materials for parts in devices and tools, within the scope of UL 94 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
