IMO FTPC Part 3: Test for Class A, B and F Parts

IMO FTPC Part 3: Test for Class A, B and F Parts

Developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the test procedure for IMO FTPC Part 3: Class A, B and F divisions is a fire test procedure for vertical and horizontal compartments applied to marine equipment. Materials to be used at sea are tested according to this International Maritime Organization fire test procedures code. The results can be used for type approval.

IMO FTPC Part 3: Test for Class A, B and F Parts

Products such as decks, curtains, doors, ceilings, cladding, windows, fire barriers, pipe penetrations and cable transits must comply with this procedure where they are required to be class A, B or F partitions. Products tested for use in buildings have similar classification markings. However, they do not fit into marine use classes.

The products listed are tested and evaluated according to the fire test procedure specified in the decision numbered A.754(18). Annexes to this resolution also contain test procedures for windows, fire barriers and pipe and duct penetrations.

The integrity of class B structures must be ensured by non-combustible materials. The adhesives used in making the sample need not be fireproof. However, for the purposes of this procedure, they must have low flame spread characteristics.

In order to prevent vibration or noise transmission, materials to be placed in B-class panel joints must have low flame spread and must be fire-tested with the B-class partitions in which they are used. However, such materials must be non-combustible if necessary to support a non-combustible Class B structure or to maintain the required integrity.

Doors and shutters installed on the bulkhead deck, which must meet both fire protection and water tightness requirements, must comply with the fire protection requirements stipulated in the procedure for the compartments in which they are installed. Waterproofing doors installed below the bulkhead deck are not required to be insulated.

The incombustibility of the materials used in Class A and B partitions is verified according to IMO FTPC Part 1. Where combustible coatings are permitted to be provided in Class A and B sections, the low flame spread properties of these coatings are verified, if necessary, in accordance with IMO FTPC Part 5.

Our organization, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, also provides testing services in accordance with the procedure of IMO FTPC Part 3: A, B and F class sections with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
