EN 13381-8 Test Method for Determination of Contribution to Fire Resistance of Structural Elements - Part 8: Reactive Protection Applied to Steel Elements

EN 13381-8, a European standard, describes a test method to determine the contribution of reactive fire protection systems applied to the fire resistance of structural steel elements used as beams or columns. This standard cannot be directly applied to structural stress members without further consideration. Also, this standard does not apply to solid bar or bar.

EN 13381-8 Test Method for Determination of Contribution to Fire Resistance of Structural Elements - Part 8: Reactive Protection Applied to Steel Elements

The test method described here covers only fire protection systems containing reactive materials, not passive fire protection materials defined in the standard.

The assessment is designed to cover the various thicknesses, cross section factors, various design temperatures and various fire protection classification periods of the applied fire protection material.

The EN 13381-8 standard includes tests to determine the ability of the fire protection system to conform and adhere to the steel structure and to provide data on the thermal properties of the fire protection system when exposed to the temperature / time curve specified in the EN 1363-1 standard.

The fire test methodology provides provisions for the collection and presentation of data used as a direct input to the fire resistance calculation of steel structural members in accordance with the procedures contained in the EN 1993-1-2 and EN 1994-1-2 standards.

This standard also includes assessment that guides the procedures for determining how to analyze test data. The evaluation procedure is used to determine:

  • Temperature data from testing the loaded and unloaded sections, a correction factor, and any practical restrictions on the use of the fire protection system under fire test conditions (physical performance)
  • Thermal characteristics of the fire protection system (thermal performance) based on temperature data from testing short steel sections

The limits of applicability of the evaluation results resulting from the fire test, together with the allowable direct application of the results, are defined to the different steel sections and grades and to the fire protection system.

Our organization, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, also provides test services for the determination of the contribution of construction elements to fire resistance within the scope of EN 13381-8 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
