A French standard, NF P92-504, defines a test method for determining the flame propagation rate for building materials that are not intended to be bonded to a rigid substrate. This test method is applied to determine the horizontal flame spread rate of materials. This test method is also valid for other fast-melting building materials and building materials that do not burn in tests or that do not fall into M1, M2 and M3 material classes.

According to fire test results, fire classification is made as follows:
If at the end of the tests performed according to the other French standards NF P92-501 and NF P92-503, if the material does not burn or if the burning time is only 5 seconds or less, the test must be carried out according to the fire resistance test classification. In the fire resistance test process, the flame lasts no more than two seconds, and the molten combustion drops do not fall.
If specific and unusual sample behavior is observed during testing, additional complementary testing may be required. These tests are included in other French standards that are close to this standard and used for similar purposes:
Our organization, among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations it provides for businesses in various sectors, also offers fire safety, building materials, fire reaction tests, flame resistance tests, and flame spread rate tests within the scope of the NF P92-504 standard, thanks to its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
