GB 8624 Classification of Combustion Behavior of Building Materials and Products

GB 8624 Classification of Combustion Behavior of Building Materials and Products

The standard "GB 8624 Classification of burning behavior of building materials and products" issued among the National Standards of the People's Republic of China describes the terms and definitions of building materials and products, burning behavior degrees, burning behavior degree criteria, burning behavior degree description and inspection report. This standard is applicable to the burning behavior classification and judgment of building materials, decoration materials and products in civil engineering.

GB 8624 Classification of Combustion Behavior of Building Materials and Products

GB 8624-2012 Burning behavior classification of building materials and products is a mandatory national standard for building materials and products to be introduced to the Chinese market. This standard is mainly based on the European standard “EN 13501-1 Fire classification of building products and building elements - Part 1: Classification using data from reaction to fire tests”. This standard provides the reaction to fire classification procedure for all building products, including products incorporated into building elements, except for power, control and communication cables within the scope of EN 13501-6.

Products are evaluated in relation to their end-use applications and primarily fall into three categories that are addressed separately:

  • Building products, except for floors and linear pipe heat insulation products
  • Slabs
  • Linear pipe thermal insulation products

Especially in China, the burning behavior classification rule of building material and interior material has played an important role in the evaluation of burning behavior for materials, the guidance of fire safety design, the supervision of fire safety, the implementation of fire protection design and the social and economic benefits it has brought.

According to the GB 8624 standard, the classification of floor coverings is as follows:

  • Class A (Class A1): Coatings that pass the tests of GB/T 14402 and GB/T 5464 standards
  • Class A (Class A2): Coatings that pass the tests of GB/T 11785 and GB/T 14402 or GB/T 5464 standards
  • Class B1 (Class B): Coatings that pass the tests of GB/T 8626 and GB/T 11785 standards
  • Class B1 (Class C): Coatings that pass the tests of GB/T 8626 and GB/T 11785 standards
  • Class B2 (Class D): Coatings that pass the tests of GB/T 8626 and GB/T 11785 standards
  • Class B2 (Class E): Coatings that pass the tests of GB/T 8626 and GB/T 11785 standards
  • Class B3 (Class F): Coatings that do not perform according to GB/T 8626 standard

The standards referred to by the GB 8624 standard are as follows:

  • GB/T 14402 Reaction to fire tests for building materials and products - Determination of heat of combustion
  • GB/T 5464 Test method for fire resistance of building materials
  • GB/T 11785 Reaction to fire tests for floors - Determination of burning behaviour using a radiant heat source
  • GB/T 8626 Test method for flammability of building materials
  • GB/T 20285 Toxic classification of fire effluent hazard for materials
  • GB/T 20284 Single combustion element test for building materials and products

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the “GB 8624 Classification of the combustion behavior of building materials and products” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
