The BS 5852 test deals with test methods for the evaluation of flame and smoke ignition sources and ignition characteristics of upholstered chairs.

The BS 5852 test represents test methods for evaluating the flammability of upholstered seats with combustible equipment and ignition sources. The purpose of the standard is to measure and evaluate the ignition potential of cushioned furniture composites and/or furniture as a whole.
Many cigarettes are not used as a smoke source because smoke generation is unrealistic. As a spark source, basically four sheets of newspaper are used as the spark source, and 1 to 7 Cradle ignition sources are classified for each use.
The sample for this test must be classified as Cover, Stuff and Complete furniture pieces and use the prescribed heat source. The pyrogen is tested using the prescribed pyrogen between butane gas and the wooden cradle and the test result is indicated as NI (Non-Ignitable) or I (Ignite).
For complete furniture, it is classified as chairs with backs and armrests, chairs without backs, chairs with and without backrests, and up-opening chairs.
The ignition distance is determined by the type of heat source (1-7), and the minimum distance (5-100mm) is specified, and the place where the heat source is placed on the furniture is also specified.
In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are also BS 5852 tests services.
