Developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), IMO FTPC Part 10: Fire test procedure for fire-restricting materials for high-speed craft is a fire-testing procedure for determining the flammability of fire-retardant materials used in high-speed craft.

This procedure is based on the ISO 5660-1 standard, which is used to evaluate the rate of heat release, smoke production and ignition time. The methods are used to classify and document material in marine and offshore applications.
The ISO 5660-1 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), describes a method for evaluating the heat release rate and dynamic smoke generation rate of samples exposed in horizontal orientation to controlled irradiation levels with an external igniter. The heat release rate is determined by measuring the oxygen consumption derived from the oxygen concentration and the flow rate in the combustion product stream. Ignition time (continuous ignition) is also measured in this test. The dynamic smoke generation rate is calculated from the measurement of the attenuation of a laser light beam by the combustion product stream. Smoke blackening is recorded for the entire test, regardless of whether the sample is ignited or not.
Ships sailing in international waters must meet certain requirements. European Union countries require the issuance of type approval certificates for products placed on these boats. Type approval is issued according to the marine equipment directive 2014/90/EU published by the Council of the European Parliament. Fire test reports alone are not accepted and it is necessary to contact a notified body for marine Certification to obtain these documents and the tests must comply with IMO FTPC procedures.
When testing a product, a 100x100 mm sample is exposed to an irradiation level of 50 kW/m2. The surface of the sample is heated and begins to emit pyrolysis gases, which are ignited by an electric spark igniter. The emitted gases are collected in a hood and transported through a ventilation system. Heat release is measured using data on the measured oxygen concentration in the emitted smoke.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides fire testing services for IMO FTPC Part 10: Fire-restricting materials for high-speed boats, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
