The standard EN 1504-7 Products and systems for the protection and repair of concrete structures - Definitions, requirements, quality control and conformity assessment - Reinforcement corrosion protection", a European standard developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI), specifies requirements for the definition and performance (including durability aspects) of products and systems for active and barrier coatings for the protection of existing uncoated steel reinforcement and embedded steel in concrete structures under repair. However, products for the corrosion protection of prestressed steel and stainless steel are outside the scope of this standard.

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply, as well as the standards EN 1504-1, EN 1504-8 and ENV 1504-9:
Performance characteristics for intended uses The table in the standard lists the performance characteristics of reinforcement corrosion protection products and systems required for all intended uses or specific intended uses according to the principles and methods defined in the ENV 1504-9 standard. Performance characteristics required for all intended uses are marked “g”. All other performance characteristics marked “1” may be required for specific intended uses.
The manufacturer must perform selected representative initial identification tests for the product or system specified in the table. These tests can be used to verify the composition of the product at any time. Acceptable tolerances are given in the table. The manufacturer must maintain test records.
Some of the common challenges companies face are the degradation of materials in various forms. Companies struggle with issues such as material selection, proper design and construction and protection measures, fault detection and material characterization. It mainly focuses on corrosion testing, failure analysis, material selection, validation and process development. Electrochemical techniques, standard and specific environmental exposures and in situ monitoring methods are used to evaluate and understand the performance of materials and surfaces. Harsh manufacturing environments such as decontamination with vaporized hydrogen peroxide are simulated in the laboratory environment.
Concrete protective coatings are any coating that helps protect the concrete surface from general wear and tear, crumbling, moisture, storm damage, abrasion, damage from harsh chemicals, and more. Exterior concrete surfaces are often protected by simply adding a few coats of paint. However, when it comes to high-traffic areas like concrete floors, applying just one coat of paint is usually not enough. Aesthetics are important, but the primary reason for protecting concrete surfaces, especially floors, is to prevent the events listed above. Another important reason is to make the floor non-slip, which is vital in commercial environments where there is a possibility of water or other moisture on the floors, making them hazardous. Other protective coatings protect concrete from things like chemical spills and other corrosive substances.
Concrete floor protection also makes floors much easier to clean and keep hygienic.
Concrete protective coatings mainly protect against the following situations:
The EN 1504-7 standard is therefore important in ensuring reinforcement corrosion protection.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies that our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the standard “EN 1504-7 Products and systems for the protection and repair of concrete structures - Definitions, requirements, quality control and conformity assessment - Reinforcement corrosion protection” with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
