The European standard “EN 1605 Thermal insulation products for building applications - Determination of deformation under specified pressure load and temperature conditions” defines equipment and procedures for determining deformation under specified pressure load, temperature and time conditions. This standard is also applicable to thermal insulation products.

For the purposes of this standard, relative deformation is the reduction in thickness of a test specimen under a specified compressive load. This value is expressed as a percentage of the initial thickness measured in the direction of the compressive load.
In principle, a certain compressive load is applied to a test sample and the relative deformation is measured in two steps, each at different temperature and time conditions.
The main equipment used in these tests includes:
The thickness of the test specimens shall be the thickness of the original product, provided that the thickness is at least 20 mm. The test specimens shall be cut square and have edges with the following recommended dimensions:
The edge length shall be equal to or greater than the thickness. The dimensions used shall be as specified in the relevant product standard. In the absence of a product standard or other technical specification, the dimensions of the test specimens may be freely agreed upon between the parties. The parallelism tolerance between the two faces of the test specimen shall not be greater than 0,5 per cent of the edge length, 0,5 mm maximum. If the test specimen is not flat, it shall be flattened or a sufficient coating shall be applied to prepare the surface for testing. When the coating is applied, no significant deformation of the coating shall occur or the deformation of the coating shall be taken into account.
The number of test samples shall be as specified in the relevant product standard. If the number is not specified, at least three test samples shall be used for each selected set of conditions. In the absence of a product standard or other technical specification, the number of test samples may be freely agreed upon between the parties.
Test specimens shall be cut in such a way that the direction of loading applied to the product corresponds to the direction of the compressive forces applied to the product during use. Natural surface coatings and all coatings forming an integral part of the product shall be retained. Where necessary, specific preparation methods are given in the relevant product standard or any other technical specification.
Our organization, which has been trying to support businesses from every sector with its testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies carried out in a wide range for years, has a strong staff that closely follows the developments in the world in the field of science and technology and constantly improves itself. In this context, testing services in accordance with the standard “EN 1605 Thermal insulation products for building applications - Determination of deformation under specified pressure load and temperature conditions” are also provided to businesses.
