EN 16806-1, a European standard, defines a test method to determine the heat storage and heat release capacity and phase change temperatures of textile fibers, yarns, woven and knitted fabrics and nonwoven fabrics containing phase change materials (PCM).

The EN 16806-1 standard is not valid for the determination of heat transfer properties of textile fabrics containing phase change materials (woven and knitted fabrics, non-woven fabrics) to which the EN 16806-2 standard applies. This standard does not apply to the determination of the heat transfer between the user and the product for textile products. For example, clothes, mattresses and the like made of phase change materials, to which the standard EN 16806-3 applies.
There are several ways to store energy, and phase change materials (PCMs) are one of the most suitable materials to efficiently store thermal energy from renewable energy sources. These are materials that have an inherent ability to absorb and release heat during phase transition cycles. Textile products using phase-change materials include various fields such as thermo-regulating fibers and smart textile materials. Major properties of these materials include melting point, latent heat, thermal conductivity, toxicity, flammability, and cost.
Textile structure plays a role in maintaining the thermal balance between body temperature and outdoor temperature. The main feature is the resistance of the product against heat and moisture transfer. However, these properties depend on external factors such as speed and relative humidity. Thermal insulation in textiles is traditionally achieved with bulky composite materials based on trapped air. However, phase change materials have come to the fore in recent years. When these materials are used in clothing, they improve thermal behavior regardless of their thickness.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, our organization, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, aims to increase the heat storage and release capacity for textiles containing phase change materials (PCM) within the scope of EN 16806-1 standard. It also provides testing services for the determination of
