The “ISO 2286 Rubber or plastic coated fabrics - Determination of roll properties” standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) consists of the following subsections published under the same title:

For the purposes of this standard, usable width means the width of a coated fabric, excluding the selvedge, which is consistent in properties, properly finished and free from unacceptable defects.
The atmospheric temperature and humidity at which the measurement was made are recorded, along with an explanation of whether the coated fabric was measured directly from the roll or after being allowed to rest without tension. When an environment is available to control atmospheric temperature and humidity, it is recommended that coated fabrics be conditioned in an environment conforming to the conditioning method of ISO 2231 standard "1" for at least 16 hours before measuring length, width, and net mass. When measuring length or width, it is also recommended that the fabric be unrolled on a flat surface and allowed to equilibrate without tension for at least 16 hours.
To measure the length of coated fabric, proceed as described herein or use other suitable mechanical, electromechanical, or photoelectric equipment. However, alternative measurement methods may not be suitable for extensible coated fabrics, such as those with knitted substrates. The cut end of the roll is cut perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the roll, limiting the cutting to the minimum required to ensure perpendicularity. The material is unrolled so that the cut end coincides with the zero mark on the measuring surface, ensuring no tension is exerted across the surface. When the other end of the surface is reached, the back of the roll is marked appropriately on both edges. The measured length is then rewound.
When preparing test pieces, use the cutter to cut five test pieces from the sample, spaced approximately diagonally and reasonably evenly across the usable width of the sample, to represent the entire width of the coated fabric. A distance of 50 mm from the edge of the sample is excluded. No test piece should be taken within 1 m of the end of a manufactured roll.
Unless otherwise agreed upon by the parties concerned to omit drying, test pieces are dried to constant mass at 65°C plus/minus 5°C in an atmosphere of not more than 10 percent relative humidity. The test pieces are conditioned in accordance with the conditioning method of ISO 2231 standard "1", and without removing them from the conditioning atmosphere, the mass of each is determined to the nearest 5 mg and the surface area of each is determined to within 1 percent. Any estimate of the mass per unit area of the coated fabric derived from the total net mass of the roll and its known length and width may be inaccurate because the entire coated fabric cannot normally be conditioned to equilibrium in a standard atmosphere. Such inaccuracies arise from excesses or deficiencies in moisture recovery throughout the roll.
For each of the five test pieces, the total mass per unit area is calculated in grams per square metre using the formula given in the standard.
When determining the mass per unit area of the substrate, the specified procedure for removing the coating from the substrate fabric depends on the nature of both the coating and the substrate itself, and in fact, for some coating types, there is no known removal method. If this is the case, this should be stated in the test report.
In principle, the coating is removed with a stripping agent from the same test pieces as used to determine the total mass per unit area. The stripped test pieces are dried, conditioned, and weighed. The process is repeated until a constant mass is achieved.
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:
The fabric to be tested is conditioned according to conditioning method number "1" of ISO 2231. Atmospheric temperature and humidity at the time of measurement are recorded.
Before each measurement, the presser foot and anvil surfaces are cleaned, and the dial indicator is adjusted to read zero when the anvil and presser foot are in contact. At least five thickness measurements are taken at equal intervals across the fabric's usable width, excluding 50 mm from the edge of the fabric. The fabric is placed on the anvil when measuring, ensuring that the fabric is smooth, free of accidental wrinkles or creases, and free of any tension. If there are intentional wrinkles in the fabric, do not attempt to straighten them before taking the measurement. The presser foot is slowly lowered onto the fabric and held in place until the indicator reading stabilizes. If it takes more than 30 seconds, the time taken to stabilize is recorded in the test report. The dial indicator reading is recorded to the nearest 0,01 mm. No measurements should be made within 1 m of the end of a manufactured roll.
The ISO 2286 standards replace the standard “DIN 53352 Testing of artificial leather and similar sheet materials - Determination of mass per unit area”.
Our organization, which has been supporting businesses across all sectors for years through a wide range of testing, measurement, analysis, and evaluation activities, has a strong team of employees who closely follow global developments in science and technology and are constantly improving themselves. In this context, we also provide testing services in accordance with the ISO 2286 "Rubber or plastic coated fabrics - Determination of roll properties" standard.
