The ISO 17228 standard published by the International Standards Organization (ISO) describes various aging procedures to achieve an end to the changes that occur when leather is exposed to a certain environment for a long time. Over time, the surface color of the skin and the skin itself begin to age. This situation changes depending on the effect of the environment on the skin. The test conditions to be used are different depending on the type of leather and its intended use. These aging procedures are also used to age samples for dimensional change testing according to the ISO 17130 standard.

In the ISO 17228 standard, the aging procedures described are:
While testing, the skin test specimen is exposed to at least one of three conditions: heat, or heat and humidity, or different temperature and humidity cycles. One or more of these procedures may occur at the same time. These procedures are also used to prepare the leather sample for other physical or fastness tests after accelerated aging. Evaluation of dimensional change is described in the ISO 17130 standard. Accelerated aging tests are for guidance only and do not represent extended use at ambient temperatures.
Aging in leather materials is defined as changes in performance and certain characteristic properties that occur over time due to factors such as ambient temperature, humidity, and ultraviolet radiation, as well as usage conditions. Leather products are more negatively affected by the effects of aging caused by light, heat, and humidity than other textile products due to their fibrous network structure. Because of this effect , the surface appearance and color fastness properties of the leather change. The effects of aging in leather products can be reversible, but sometimes irreversible. Partial prevention of this aging and the preservation of certain properties for longer periods are possible.
Our organization also provides accelerated aging and color change test services between color fastness tests of leather materials, within the scope of ISO 17228 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
