Both Wyzenbeek and Martindale tests are abrasion / rub tests that test different properties of textiles. The Wyzenbeek test method involves friction along the warp and weft of the fabric. In contrast, the Martindale test method involves a scrubbing action. Success in one of these test methods does not mean success in the other.

Wyzenbeek and Martindale test methods are widely applied methods to determine the abrasion ability of fabrics. Actual performance is determined by many factors such as fiber content, textures, finishes, furniture design, care, cleaning and use.
The Wyzenbeek test method uses a Wyzenbeek machine. This machine helps the sample to be pulled tight and stable in a frame. Test specimens cut in the warp and weft directions are then rubbed back and forth using an abrasive approved fabric. The number of double scrubbing cycles achieved before two yarn breaks or noticeable wear is observed is recorded as the degree of wear of the fabric.
The Martindale test method, on the other hand, uses an oscillating method. The fabric samples are mounted flat and rubbed in a figure-of-eight motion using a piece of worsted wool fabric as the abrasive. The number of cycles the fabric can withstand is recorded before it shows an objectionable change in the fabric's appearance, for example yarn breaks, piling and holes. The number of cycles determines the degree of wear.
End-use examples of heavy-duty installations include: single-shift institutional, hotel rooms, conference rooms, and dining area use. There are extreme wear situations that require a higher level of wear resistance: 24-hour transportation terminals, 24-hour telemarketing, 24-hour medical emergency rooms, 24-hour casino gambling areas and public gathering places such as theatres, stadiums, conference rooms and fast food restaurants. Mainly for heavy-duty use, 30 thousand double scrub Wyzenbeek method or 40 thousand cycle Martindale method are applied.
Our organization also provides Wyzenbeek and Martindale wear tests services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
