In the ISO 105-E01 standard developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), a test method is defined to determine the resistance of the color of textiles of all types and forms to immersion in water.

This test method is applied to detect the transition of color to another fabric, especially when textile products are wet and in close contact. These tests are performed at neutral pH levels.
Along with ISO 105-E01, the AATCC 107 standard, developed by the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC), is one of the most commonly referenced standards for determining color fastness to water. These standards are technically equivalent, but their test methods differ slightly. For example, the AATCC 107 standard requires the sample to be heated for a longer period than the ISO 105-E01 standard.
It is used in conjunction with a strip sample from a multifibre fabric sample to measure staining during tests. The test sample and the multifibre fabric are immersed in water under certain temperature and time conditions. After soaking, the fabric is placed between glass or plastic plates and dried under the specified time, pressure and temperature conditions. The multifibre fabric is then compared to the gray scale for dyeing and the test sample is compared to the gray scale for color change. Many companies accept the third degree for dyeing and the fourth degree for color change. Fifth degree is the best degree.
Some color fastness tests may be more important, depending on the design and intended use of textiles. Other standards exist for color fastness to seawater, chlorinated water, hot pressing and other unique conditions. Color fastness problems are often not noticed until aftermarket, but become apparent during use. In this respect, it is important not to take risks and to test fabrics before shipment and to ensure optimum color fastness levels.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer color fastness testing services for textile products, specifically focusing on determining color fastness to water, under the ISO 105-E01 standard, utilizing a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
