The standard “ISO 2286 Rubber or plastic coated fabrics - Determination of roll properties”, which is based on a European standard and later published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), consists of the following subsections published under the same title:

For the purposes of this standard, usable width refers to the width of a coated fabric, excluding the edges, that is consistent in its properties, properly finished and free from unacceptable defects.
In these tests, the measuring surface consists of a flat, horizontal surface at least 5 m long and at least as wide as the roll to be examined. Each longitudinal edge of this surface should be marked in 1-m lengths. At least one of these lengths, preferably at the end of the surface, should be marked at 1-cm intervals. A measuring scale graduated in millimeters is used for the tests, with a length greater than the width of the fabric to be measured. A scale accurate to the nearest 100 g is also used.
The atmospheric temperature and humidity at which the measurement is made are generally recorded, along with a statement indicating whether the coated fabric was measured directly from the roll or after being released without tension. When an environment is available to control atmospheric temperature and humidity, the sample should be conditioned in an environment conforming to the conditioning method of ISO 2231 standard "1" for at least 16 hours before measuring the length, width, and net mass of coated fabrics. Furthermore, when measuring length or width, the fabric should be unrolled on a flat surface and allowed to equilibrate without tension for at least 16 hours. The length, usable width, and net mass are then determined in accordance with the standard.
In preparing test pieces, five test pieces are cut from the sample using the cutter, from positions close to the diagonal and reasonably equally spaced along the usable width of the sample, so as to represent the full width of the coated fabric, except 50 mm from the edge of the sample. No test piece shall come within 1 m of the end of a manufactured roll.
Unless the parties concerned agree otherwise to omit the drying process, the test pieces are dried to constant mass in an atmosphere of not more than 10 percent relative humidity at a temperature of 65°C plus or minus 5°C. The test pieces are conditioned in accordance with the conditioning method of ISO 2231 standard “1,” and the mass of each is determined to the nearest 5 mg and the surface area of each is determined to 1 percent without removing it from the conditioning atmosphere. Any estimate of the mass per unit area of the coated fabric derived from the total net mass of the roll and its known length and width may be inaccurate because the entire coated fabric cannot normally be conditioned to equilibrium in a standard atmosphere. Such inaccuracies arise from excesses or deficiencies in moisture recovery throughout the entire roll.
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:
The dial indicator used in the tests is a deadweight type, designed to record the vertical distance between the bearing surfaces of a press stand and the reference plate, and is equipped with a dial graduated to provide direct reading of the thickness to the nearest 0,01 mm. The indicator shall be calibrated to allow at least one of the pressures specified herein to be obtained using at least one of the press stand sizes.
The tests also use a circular pressure foot. This has a flat, smooth surface and a diameter of at least 9 mm and can apply one or more of the specified pressures.
At the beginning of the tests, the sample is conditioned according to conditioning method "1" of ISO 2231 standard. The atmospheric temperature and humidity at the time of measurement are recorded. Before each determination, the presser foot and anvil surfaces are cleaned, and the dial indicator is adjusted to indicate zero when the anvil and presser foot are in contact. At least five thickness measurements are taken at equal intervals across the usable width of the fabric, excluding 50 mm from the edge of the fabric. The fabric is placed on the anvil. The fabric should be smooth, free of accidental wrinkles or creases, and free of any tension. If the fabric has intentional wrinkles, no attempt should be made to smooth them before taking the measurement.
The presser foot is slowly lowered onto the fabric and held in place until the dial indicator reading stabilizes. If it takes more than 30 seconds, the time it takes to stabilize is recorded in the test report. The dial indicator reading is recorded to the nearest 0,01 mm. If the fabric has an embossed surface, avoid embossed areas. No measurements should be taken within 1 m of the end of a produced roll.
Our organization, which has been supporting businesses across all sectors for years through a wide range of testing, measurement, analysis, and evaluation activities, has a strong team of employees who closely follow global developments in science and technology and are constantly improving themselves. In this context, we also provide testing services in accordance with the ISO 2286 "Rubber or plastic coated fabrics - Determination of roll properties" standard.
