ISO 10874 Flexible, Textile and Laminate Flooring - Classification
In the ISO 10874 standard published by the International Standards Organization (ISO), a classification system is presented for flexible, textile and laminate floor coverings. This classification system is based on practical requirements for areas of use and intensity of use, and is based on the requirements specified in the relevant international standard for each type of floor covering.

The ISO 10874 standard also aims to provide guidance to manufacturers, determinants and consumers in order to select the appropriate floor covering class for a particular area of use or a particular room.
This standard highlights the usage levels at which resilient flooring must provide satisfactory service. These classifications are based on the nominal minimum overall thickness as well as three lifetime-based tests:
- First, a test method is applied that evaluates the abrasive effect of the floor covering. This test involves counting the number of particles that appear on the surface of the product before and during the various test cycles. During this assessment, the surface is eroded by a combination of leather wheels and an abrasive grit on a rotating platform. The requirements for this test are that the floor covering product should have 10 percent of the particles counted before the test.It is based on the number of cycles it can withstand without losing more than that. Such a result suggests that the flooring will still exhibit good slip resistance throughout its lifetime.
- Second, the wheelchair test required for use level classification is applied. This test represents the effect of a chair or other object on the wheels that spin on the upholstery product.
- Finally, the seam strength test is applied. This test evaluates the strength of the product when a joint is welded together to form a seam. The tested sample is clamped between two pneumatic jaws that separate at a speed of 100 mm/min and the maximum load on the product is measured. The product must show a seam strength of more than 50N per 240 mm with a minimum individual seam strength.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides test services for the classification principles of flexible, textile and laminate flooring within the scope of ISO 10874 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
