The ASTM D5199-12 standard published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) defines a test method for the measurement of the nominal thickness of geosynthetics, except for textured and some structured geomembranes where the entire surface of the presser foot cannot fully contact the geosynthetic surface. This test method does not provide thickness values for geosynthetics under varying normal compressive stresses. This test method is used to determine the nominal thickness, not necessarily the minimum thickness.

For the purposes of this standard,
While performing the tests, the nominal thickness of the geosynthetics is observed, the vertical distance at which a moving plane is displaced from a parallel surface by the geotextile or geomembrane material for 2 seconds under a certain pressure (20 kPa for geotextiles and 5 kPa for geomembranes).
Thickness is one of the fundamental physical properties used to control the quality of many geosynthetics. Thickness values are required in the calculation of some geotextile and geomembrane parameters such as permeability coefficients and tensile stress.
Our organization also provides standard testing services to measure the nominal thickness of geosynthetics, within the scope of ASTM D5199-12 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
