Stellantis CS-13398 Internal Material Emission Requirements (Stellantis Harmonized)

Stellantis CS-13398 Internal Material Emission Requirements (Stellantis Harmonized)

The “Stellantis CS-13398 Interior material emission requirements (Stellantis harmonized)” standard, developed by Stellantis, an American, Italian and French multinational automotive manufacturing company, is designed to create guidelines for general emission tests of materials used in the interior of the vehicle. This standard defines minimum material level requirements for fogging, odor and emissions of carbonyls, volatile organic compounds (VOC) and total volatile organic compounds (TVOC).

Stellantis CS-13398 Internal Material Emission Requirements (Stellantis Harmonized)

This standard addresses material level requirements only. The requirements established by this standard are valid for all materials supplied to Stellantis for use in the passenger compartment, cargo area and air filtration system components.

Textiles, carpets, leather, films, plastic components, adhesives, sealants, foams, coatings, composite materials, elastomers, rubbers, insulation and similar emissions are covered by this standard. Composite materials, which are materials consisting of two or more layers held tightly together by bonding, coating or similar means at each point of contact, are also within the scope of this standard. When layers are held together at intervals by stitching, welding, or similar means, they are not considered composite materials and must be tested separately.

This standard covers materials used in vehicle interior parts with a surface area greater than 150 cm2 or a minimum weight of 50 grams. If a part is used more than once in the vehicle, the total volume and weight of all parts used in the interior are added and if the total volume or weight exceeds the above mentioned limits, emission tests are carried out.

Testing according to this standard must be performed by an accredited laboratory acceptable to Stellantis

The sample size and quantity must be sufficient to perform all tests. Plastic pellet raw materials intended for testing should be molded on a test plate. Sufficient test plates must be submitted to perform all tests described in the standard. For roll materials (fabric, leather, carpet, synthetic leather) the sample size must be at least 1 m2. In terms of paint, the supplier must prepare the sample in accordance with the paint process guidelines for coating, thickness and drying. If necessary, each paint layer should be analyzed separately. After drying, the samples are ventilated at room temperature for 7 days. For fillers, adhesives, sealants and insulation pads cured in vehicles, the supplier must prepare the sample following the vehicle manufacturing process at representative curing temperature and time. To prepare the sample, the material is applied to aluminum foil. After drying, the samples are ventilated at room temperature for 7 days.

Samples should not be touched with bare hands. When preparing samples, contact with oils or greases from cutting tools or other environmental contaminants should be avoided. The material must be obtained no later than 24 plus/minus 2 hours after production and must be stored in a clean area to prevent possible production contamination from paint spray booths, exhaust gases and fumes. It should not be brought into contact with other materials to eliminate cross-contamination.

Storage area conditions should not exceed 23 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees and 50 percent plus/minus 20 percent relative humidity. Parts should not be exposed to direct sunlight. The storage area must be clean and free of any VOC emissions.

The piece should be wrapped after being stored for 14 plus/minus 1 days under the conditions specified above.

All materials must be wrapped in silicone-free aluminum foil and sealed in a polyethylene bag before shipping, 14 days after the production date. Unless otherwise specified in this standard, no pre- or post-treatment of test samples should be permitted outside the production process.

In most cases, material must be stored in the laboratory before testing can begin. The material should remain securely covered in packaging to prevent any deterioration or contamination during storage.

Materials should not be stored in the test laboratory for more than two weeks prior to the start of the emission test. The material must be tested within a maximum of five weeks after production. The material will be unpackaged and conditioned for 24 hours plus/minus 4 hours prior to testing at a temperature of 23 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees and 50 percent plus/minus 10 percent relative humidity.

Among the numerous testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the "Stellantis CS-13398 Internal material emission requirements (Stellantis harmonized)" standard, with a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
