The D41 1097 standard, developed by the PSA Peugeot Citroen group, Europe's second largest automobile manufacturer, defines a test method for determining the puncture resistance of floor coverings used in the automotive industry. This test method was developed to evaluate the resistance to punctures in automobile floor coverings where shoe heels contact or knocks occur. Where resistance is weak, either a hole forms or the ground is on compressible material. This standard applies to plastic, composite or non-composite rubber upholstery and fabric upholstery.

Protecting vehicle floors is not just a matter of aesthetics, holes and cuts in upholstery and coatings cause major deterioration over time and high costs in terms of time and money.
Leather is the most sought after material of all car upholstery options. Leather has many advantages over vinyl. For example, it is a natural product and a greener choice. At the same time, leather has many different patterns and color tones. Also, leather is much tougher than vinyl and more puncture resistant.
Vinyl is one step behind leather in terms of luxury and comfort. However, it is much easier to clean. Essentially because vinyl is plastic, it is more water and stain resistant, but less resistant to punctures, burning and cracking.
Whatever material is used, interior trim and coatings of vehicles are subjected to various strength tests in advanced laboratories. Tests for all components are beneficial in long-term conditions, in daily operations from sub-zero temperatures to desert temperatures, both to ensure safety and comfort and to achieve long-term service life.
As vehicles become more personal, interior design becomes more important and interior materials are undergoing significant improvements. Today, instead of textiles, plastic and more and more leather natural materials are used.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides test services to determine the puncture resistance of automobile upholstery and coatings within the scope of D41 1097 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
