PSA D10 5010 Vulcanized Compact Rubbers - Thermoplastic Elastomers - Material Testing Standards - External Standards
The standard “PSA D10 5010 Vulcanized compact rubbers - Thermoplastic elastomers - Material test standards - External standards” developed by the French automobile company Renault describes specific conditions for the PSA Group for the application of the characterization test method from national committees or international committees (ISO, CEN). This standard applies to compounds and parts on vulcanized rubbers and thermoplastic rubbers.

These test methods consist in principle of specifying for each characterizing test (density, hardness, deformation, etc.), the external standard to be used and the specific conditions that must be observed for the PSA Group tests.
The specific equipment for each characterization test is detailed in the external standard corresponding to the test to which PSA Group specific conditions may be added. These conditions are detailed in section 9 of this standard.
Test samples should be representative of the scale to be characterized. In order to ensure this representation, the basic characteristics of the studied population must be revealed. Selection criteria for test samples must be stated in the test report in accordance with the A10 0156 standard. In case of doubt about sampling, the PSA Group should be contacted to learn the directives to be followed.
Specific conditions for PSA Group testing are detailed in section 9 of this standard. For tests in liquids, reporting to the PSA Group is required if no specification is found in the reference documents. If testing on parts is not specified in the standard, it remains possible only after agreement with the PSA Group on the conditions and procedure to be followed.
Special conditions for PSA Group tests include:
- Volumetric mass and density: For this characterization test, method A or the density-balanced method described in the standard “ISO 2781 Rubber, vulcanized - Determination of density” is applied. In addition to this standard, the following requirements apply:
- Depending on the method used, the density of the material is expressed without any units.
- The standard suffix is used to determine the density of the immersion liquid and to find the formulas for calculating the density and volumetric mass of the sample.
- Hardness:
- Edge A and D: For this characterization test, the standard “ISO 7619 Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic - Determination of indentation hardness” applies. In addition to this standard, the following requirements apply: Samples are conditioned for a minimum of 16 hours for hydrophilic materials and 1 hour for others, the test duration must be stated in the reference documents.
- IRHD and micro IRHD: For this characterization test, the standard “ISO 48-2 Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic - Determination of hardness” is applied. In addition to this standard, the following requirements apply: samples are conditioned for a minimum of 16 hours for hydrophilic materials and 3 hours for others.
- Tensile test: For this characterization test, the standard “ISO 37 Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic - Determination of tensile stress-strain properties” is applied. In addition to this standard, the following requirements apply:
- The crosshead must have a 10 percent accuracy in velocity displacement.
- By default, the test is performed with type 2 dumbbell-shaped specimens.
- If it is not possible to perform the test with this type of samples, it is possible to use type 3 dumbbell-shaped samples with the agreement of the PSA Group.
- The final direction of the finishing should be indicated by an arrow and the injection point by a mark. In the case of fibre reinforced material, measurements are carried out in two directions.
- It is necessary to use an optical or mechanical extensometer with a minimum resolution of 0,1 mm.
- The displacement speeds of the crosshead must be as given in the standard.
- During sample preparation, the sample is fixed in the upper jaw, the sensor force is calibrated, and the sample is fixed in the lower jaw.
- Before starting the measurement, preload is applied at a maximum speed of 50 mm/min.
Other tests performed for the PSA Group include:
- Delf tear test
- Press and tension set (press set, tension set)
- Ageing (ageing in air, ageing in liquids and greases, ageing in ozone)
- Low temperature tests (determination of low temperature embrittlement, determination of low temperature shrinkage, differential scanning calorimetry, crystallization)
- Transverse resistivity
- Identification features (solvent extraction, thermogram analysis)
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the “PSA D10 5010 Vulcanized compact rubbers - Thermoplastic elastomers - Material testing standards - External standards” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
