The DIN 51130 standard, developed by the German Standardization Institute (DIN), describes a test method that serves as a performance test for the determination and classification of the slip resistance of floor coverings used in workplaces and work areas with slip risk. In addition, this standard provides a method for measuring the volume of displacement gaps in floor coverings with profiled surfaces.

In the DIN 51130 standard, levels between R9-R13 are determined by taking into account the slip angle, slipalert test value (a global standard for ground test methodology and slip prevention), wet slip risk and for which areas it is suitable. Accordingly, if a floor is likely to be wet, then level R13 is best. For swimming pool surroundings or changing areas, only R12 or R13 levels should be considered. R11 level is considered suitable for floor transition areas such as mall entrance or dry locker room floor that can get wet despite efforts to keep it dry. R10 level is suitable for floor areas that can normally be kept dry. The R9 level is the lowest and is only suitable for floors that are never wet or used by very few people.
The ramp test gives very consistent results. The ramp test is used to test bath mats. The wet foot ramp test is the only test using wet feet and therefore provides valuable information. Wet feet results are also consistent with other test values.
However, although it is an easy test, the R values obtained reflect only a part of real life and can be misleading. Because the ramp test does not reflect exactly how the floor will behave when laid. After the floor is laid, the actual value of the slip risk may differ from the determined R level. While the R9 level is assumed to be good, many floors that have received R9 certification are not considered safe for use in wet conditions.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer ramp testing services, in accordance with the DIN 51130 standard, to determine the slip resistance of floors in workrooms and activity areas with slip hazards. This is made possible by our trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
