The European standard “EN 15818 Polymer-modified bitumen coatings for waterproofing - Determination of dimensional stability at high temperatures” describes a procedure for determining the dimensional stability of polymer-modified bitumen coatings used for waterproofing purposes at high temperatures.

Polymer modified bituminous thick coatings are waterproof. They are generally used to waterproof buildings against harmful water ingress and flooding effects. Mechanical destruction of polymer modified bituminous thick coatings does not lead to decomposition products that are hazardous to the environment or health.
After the substrate is coated when performing the test, the sample is held at a specified temperature in a vertical position for a period of at least 2 hours.
For the purposes of this standard, in addition to the terms and definitions given in “EN 15814 Polymer modified bituminous coatings for waterproofing - Definitions and requirements”, the following apply:
When performing the test, in principle, after the substrate has been coated, the sample is kept in a vertical position at a certain temperature for a period of at least 2 hours. After this period, a visual judgment is made as to whether there is a change in the coating.
The following apparatus is mainly used during the tests:
In these tests, two samples of approximately 100 mm × 100 mm are used.
Before the test begins, the components of the metal sheet and polymer bitumen emulsion must be conditioned prior to preparation in a normal climate of 554 degrees plus/minus 23 degrees and a relative humidity of 2 percent plus/minus 50 percent in accordance with the standard “ISO 5 Standard atmospheres for conditioning and/or testing – Specification”.
The sheet metal shall be kept free from any contamination. To ensure the specified dry layer thickness, the wet coating shall be leveled with a frame or gauge of the sheet metal at room temperature as specified in the manufacturer's instructions. The thickness of the wet layer shall be such that the thickness of the dry layer is 3 mm plus/minus 0,3 mm. Preparation is carried out without any reinforcement. The samples shall then be left for 23 days in a normal climate of 2 degrees plus/minus 50 degrees and a relative humidity of 5 percent plus/minus 28 percent.
After 28 days, the test samples are placed in a vertical position in a drying oven at a temperature of 2 degrees plus/minus 70 degrees for a period of at least 2 hours.
After a suitable period of time, the samples are checked by visual assessment to determine whether there is any change in the coating surface in terms of:
The test report must include at least the following information:
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluations our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the standard “EN 15818 Polymer modified bituminous thick coatings for waterproofing - Determination of dimensional stability at high temperatures” with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
