A method for determining the flow resistance of hot-applied grouts is described in the European standard “EN 13880-5 Hot-applied grouts - Part 5: Test method for determining the flow resistance”.

For the purposes of this document, flow resistance refers to the movement of the lower cross edge of the test specimen after a specified conditioning period.
When performing the test, in principle, a portion of the test sample is overcast into a metal molding frame placed on a metal plate. After cooling in air, the test sample is cut with a heated knife, and the metal plate carrying the test sample is mounted on a metal stand, then the entire assembly is placed in a controlled environment for 5 hours. Then, the flow resistance is calculated by measuring the movement along the lower transverse edge.
The main equipment used in these tests includes:
Test specimens are prepared according to EN 13880-6. First, the inside of the metal frame is treated with a separating agent. The frame is placed on the metal plate and the frame is filled with excess test specimen. At the end of the casting, the actual temperature is recorded.
After cooling in air for 1 hour under standard laboratory conditions, the excess test sample in the frame is cut off with a heated knife.
Two test samples should be prepared for each test.
The test conditions should be: temperature 60,0 degrees plus/minus 2,5 degrees, test time 5 hours plus/minus 3 minutes.
When performing the test, the frame is removed and the existing profile of the sealant is marked on the metal plate with an index line drawn parallel and across the lower cross edge of the test specimen. The metal stand is placed in the oven set to the required test temperature for 30 minutes before starting the test.
The metal plate containing the test specimen is placed on a metal stand mounted so that the longitudinal axis of the test specimen is at an angle of 75 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees to the horizontal and the transverse axis is horizontal. The temperature is maintained at 60,0 degrees plus/minus 2,5 degrees for 5 hours plus/minus 3 minutes. After 5 hours, the assembly is removed from the oven and the maximum movement of the lower transverse edge of the test specimen below the index line is measured to the nearest 1 mm.
Flow resistance is reported as the average of two determinations, rounded to the nearest 1 mm.
The test report shall state that the test was performed in accordance with this standard and shall include the following information: name of the test sample and relevant primers, if used, source of the test sample and relevant primer, batch number and date of manufacture or expiry date, if appropriate, date of test and results obtained, and name of the analyst and testing laboratory.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies that our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, it also provides testing services defined in the standard “EN 13880-5 Hot applied grouts - Part 5: Test method for determining flow resistance” with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
