ASTM D903-98, published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), defines a test method for determining the comparative peel properties of adhesive bonds when tested on standard sized specimens and under defined conditions of pretreatment, temperature, and test machine speed. This test method requires the use of a power driven testing machine and a conditioning chamber or dryer with a fixed jaw separation ratio or tilt balance or pendulum type.

The ASTM D903 standard includes a common tensile testing method used to evaluate the peel properties of adhesively bonded materials used in a wide variety of applications across a wide range of industries. Some examples of materials tested to this standard include plastic films, adhesive labels, and waterproofing materials.
According to the ASTM D903 standard, tests have some strengths. For example,
The test method defined in the ASTM D903 standard is generally applied for research and development purposes. Because it requires a conditioning period, it is difficult to use this test method as a quality control measure. In most cases, the ASTM D903 test method is used to evaluate the isolated chemical composition of adhesives that yield the best adhesive properties.
During this test, adhesive materials are cut into 2.5 x 30.5 cm long samples. The samples are then peeled off a flexible or rigid substrate at a 152.4 degree angle at a separation speed of 180 mm/min. Test materials should be thick enough to withstand the expected tensile strength, but not more than 3 mm thick.
All samples must be conditioned prior to testing. Standard conditioning requires exposure of the sample to monitored humidity and temperature for 7 days. For some adhesives, the conditioning time may be shorter depending on the material.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides standard testing services for the peel strength of adhesive bonds within the scope of ASTM D903-98 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
