The “FCA 9.03107 Insulation strips dynamic sealing system” standard developed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), an Italian-American automotive company, describes the insulation strip dynamic sealing system requirements for specific regions for harmonized or non-harmonized applications. This standard covers the features that the dynamic sealing system used in door opening systems must meet. This standard defines the methods and equipment to be used in performing inspection tests for such properties.

This standard covers the general performance requirements of the insulation tape dynamic sealing system. The dynamic sealing system must ensure comfortable opening and closing of the door or glass sliding system, reduce door vibrations, ensure water tightness and seal against the ingress of water, dirt and noise.
The dynamic seal system assembly must be capable of withstanding environmental operating conditions in vehicles without damaging materials and components.
Insulation strip consists of different materials. Some of the typical materials used are: ethylene propylene diene rubber-based thermoset rubber, thermoplastic elastomers, polypropylene (PP) hard plastic.
Insulating leads can be produced by extrusion or molding using a single material, or by combinations of different materials (steel, aluminum, wire, plastic) with or without additions. Also, insulation strips may have additional materials such as double-sided adhesive tapes, mastic sealer, hot melt, plastic pins, filler.
The insulation strips assembly may consist of a single extruded profile, a single molded part, or different extruded profiles combined with molded details. The classification of the profile or molding used to install the insulation strips must be specified in the design together with the definition of the work area. Example of insulation strips installation drawing with description profile and molding.
The purpose of the product qualification requirements provided in this standard is to ensure conformity with the specification, but does not relieve the responsible organization from ensuring that the component or system meets all environmental, physical, electrical, mechanical, functional, regulatory and durability requirements, including all applicable system interface requirements.
The tables presented in this standard provide a summary of all requirements and are used to develop test planning. Samples used for design verification meet the specified drawing tolerance range. Samples for production verification meet statistical capabilities for machinery and production processes. Each item of the test plan should be supported by a comprehensive test or laboratory procedure.
Environmental working conditions include exposure to water, dirt, mud, snow, salt spray, corrosive road debris, chemicals, liquids, extreme cold and high temperatures, and relative humidity. The temperature can range from minus 30 degrees to plus 80 degrees and the relative humidity can range from 0-100 percent.
The sealing system must also be resistant to heat generated from external sources (which can reach temperatures of up to 100 degrees). The sealing system assembly must be designed to withstand temperatures of 50 degrees and 70 percent relative humidity without damage during transportation and storage to installation sites.
Unless otherwise stated, the dynamic sealing system is aged before the following tests:
Any components that have been aged for more than 30 days or have been exposed to temperatures exceeding 23 degrees residual/minus 3 degrees will not be tested unless approved by body and materials engineering.
Dynamic seals are used in applications where movement occurs between the hardware component and the sealing solution. The motion may be rotary, translational, reciprocating or oscillatory. Effective dynamic seals need to provide a balance between sealing force, minimize friction and also prevent leakage.
Among the numerous testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the "FCA 9.03107 Insulation strips dynamic sealing system" standard, with a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
