EN 572 Glass in Building - Basic Soda-Lime Silicate Glass Products

EN 572 Glass in Building - Basic Soda-Lime Silicate Glass Products

The EN 572 standard, which is a European standard, consists of the following subsections under the title "Glass in the Building - Basic soda-lime silicate glass products":

EN 572 Glass in Building - Basic Soda-Lime Silicate Glass Products

  • EN 572-1 Part 1: Definitions and general physical and mechanical properties
  • EN 572-2 Part 2: Float glass
  • EN 572-3 Part 3: Polished wired glass
  • EN 572-4 Part 4: Extruded glass sheet
  • EN 572-5 Part 5: Patterned glass
  • EN 572-6 Part 6: Wired patterned glass
  • EN 572-7 Part 7: Channel-shaped glass with or without cable
  • EN 572-8 Part 8: Supplied and final cut dimensions
  • EN 572-9 Part 9: Evaluation of conformity / product standard

In the EN 572-1 standard, basic glass products are explained and classified, their chemical composition, basic physical and mechanical properties are specified, and general quality criteria are defined. Special dimensions and dimensional tolerances, definition of defects, quality limits and definitions for each basic product type are not covered by this standard. These properties are given in separate subsections specific to each product type, such as flat glass, polished wire glass, extruded glass sheet, patterned glass, wire patterned glass, wired or wireless channel-shaped glass.

In the EN 572-2 standard, the dimensional and minimum quality requirements for flat glass for use in buildings, as described in the EN 572-1 standard, are defined in terms of optical and visual errors. This standard applies only to float glass supplied in jumbo sizes, split sizes and oversize plates.

In the EN 572-3 standard, the dimensional and minimum quality requirements for polished stranded glass for use in buildings, as described in the EN 572-1 standard, are defined in terms of optical, visual and wire failures. This standard applies to polished wire glass supplied in rectangular panels and stock sizes only.

In the EN 572-4 standard, the dimensional and minimum quality requirements for extruded glass sheets for use in buildings, as described in the EN 572-1 standard, are defined in terms of optical and visual errors. This standard only applies to extruded glass sheets supplied in rectangular panes and stock sizes.

In the EN 572-5 standard, dimensional and minimum quality requirements for patterned glass for use in buildings, as described in the EN 572-1 standard, are defined in relation to visual and pattern errors. This standard only applies to patterned glass supplied in rectangular panes and stock sizes.

In the EN 572-6 standard, the dimensional and minimum quality requirements for wired patterned glass for use in buildings, as described in the EN 572-1 standard, are defined in terms of optical and visual defects. This standard applies only to wired patterned glass supplied in rectangular panes and stock sizes.

In the EN 572-7 standard, dimensional and minimum quality requirements for channel-shaped glazing are defined in terms of visual and wire defects, as described in the EN 572-1 standard for use in buildings. This standard covers channel-shaped glasses supplied in stock sizes and cut-to-finish sizes.

In the EN 572-8 standard, dimensional and minimum quality requirements for basic soda lime silicate glass products are defined in relation to optical and visual errors, as described in the EN 572-1 standard for use in buildings. This standard applies to dimensions or cut sizes supplied for end use. This standard does not apply to final cut dimensions less than 100 mm in size or less than 0,05 m2 of surface area. This standard also does not apply to float glass supplied in jumbo or split sizes. For supplied polished wire glass, extruded glass sheet, patterned glass and patterned wire glass, the relevant departmental standards apply. This standard does not apply to the final cut dimensions of wired or wireless channel shaped glass.

The EN 572-9 standard describes the conformity assessment and factory production control principles of basic soda lime silicate glass products for use in buildings. For glass products with electrical cables or connections, other directives for alarm or heating purposes, for example the low voltage directive, apply.

Our organization also provides testing services for basic soda-lime silicate glass products used in buildings, within the scope of EN 572 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
