FCC Compliance Tests

FCC Compliance Tests

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is the official agency that regulates interstate and international communications on U.S. soil by radio, television, telephone, satellite, and cable. The FCC, an independent organization overseen by Congress, enacts legal regulations for communication and follows technological innovations.

FCC Compliance Tests

When any electrical and electronic device is ready for mass production, the FCC authorization process begins. Devices are subjected to a number of tests to determine whether they cause interference with other equipment and whether they broadcast in the appropriate radio frequency range. In addition, devices are tested against other telecommunication requirements within the scope of regulatory codes.

The FCC divides digital devices into two test classes:

  • Class A testing: Covers devices used mainly in industrial, commercial and engineering environments.
  • Class B testing: Covers consumer devices. Testing requirements are generally higher for devices in this class.

The FCC compliance certification process generally follows these steps:

  • Step 1 Selecting a radio frequency and designing equipment.
  • Step 2 Tests during development (pre-fit tests).
  • Step 3FCC registration.
  • Step 4 Compliance testing (this step should deliver a production-ready prototype for assessments to required FCC standards and applicable FCC testing).
  • Step 5 Test report.
  • Step 6 Documentation.
  • Step 7 Certification and filing.

In 2015, changes were made to the FCC certification process. The FCC no longer accepts direct applications for certification. For this, it is necessary to apply to an accredited institution. FCC compliance tests are now performed by authorized organizations. Products that pass these tests can be legally marketed in the USA.

Having FCC compliance tests performed and obtaining FCC certification gives manufacturers access to a wider market. It also builds consumer trust in these devices. Essentially, it's impossible to offer an electronic device to the US market without FCC certification. Uncertified devices are considered risky for human health. Ultimately, FCC certification is proof that a product has been tested and verified.

Our organization also provides FCC compliance testing services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
