The orientation of polymers improves many properties, especially mechanical, impact, barrier and optical properties. Biaxial steering has the advantage of allowing this enhancement in two directions, avoiding any weakness in the transverse direction. Biaxial orientation is particularly important in films where it has the ability to produce thinner films with superior mechanical, optical and barrier properties and, if necessary, the ability to shrink when reheated. For example, shrinkage and barrier properties are important in meat packaging, whereas in wrapping applications for cassettes and CDs, good mechanical and optical properties and no shrinkage are expected.

Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP, biaxially oriented polypropylene) is a popular film material produced from plastic. Biaxial orientation refers to the production process that stretches the film in two directions, making it stronger and more transparent. Polypropylene is a versatile polymer used in films, food packaging, clear bags and more.
In practice, two types of BOPP are produced: white BOPP and clear BOPP. The most common BOPP film is white, which is non-toxic, extremely strong, and moisture-resistant. It has a strong, permanent adhesive that adheres well to many surfaces. Companies producing health, beauty, and personal care products prefer white BOPP material for their films. However, white BOPP is also used for food films. Clear BOPP film material is strong and moisture-resistant.
BOPP material is tear-resistant and accepts many ink formulations. Its moisture resistance and adhesive quality make it an excellent choice for surfaces that may get wet or messy.
The ISO 17555 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), describes the requirements for biaxially oriented polypropylene (PP) films, which are mostly used for packaging (ISO 17555 Plastics - Film and coating - Biaxially oriented polypropylene (PP) films). These films can be used alone or in laminates with other films. This standard applies only to films consisting of more than 95 percent by mass of polypropylene.
Our organization also provides BOPP (bidirectional polypropylene) analysis services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
