EN 13501-1 Fire Classification of Building Products and Structural Elements - Part 1: Classification Using Data from Reaction to Fire Tests

EN 13501-1 Fire Classification of Building Products and Structural Elements - Part 1: Classification Using Data from Reaction to Fire Tests

In the EN 13501-1 standard, which is a European standard, the reaction to fire classification procedure is explained for all building products, including the products included in the building elements, except for the power, control and communication cables within the scope of the EN 13501-6 standard.

EN 13501-1 Fire Classification of Building Products and Structural Elements - Part 1: Classification Using Data from Reaction to Fire Tests

According to this procedure, products are evaluated according to their end-use applications. Mainly, this standard applies to the following three categories:

  • Construction products, excluding floors and linear pipe thermal insulation products
  • Slabs
  • Linear pipe thermal insulation products

Within the scope of the building materials regulation (EC) 305/2011, which is in force in the European Union countries, for the CE marking of construction products, the "performance not declared" option can be used in cases where the fire reaction performance will not be declared.

The main fire reaction tests performed by advanced laboratories for compliance with the EN 13501-1 standard, individually or in combination depending on the product, are:

  • ISO 1182 Reaction to fire tests for products - Flammability test
  • ISO 1716 Reaction to fire tests for products - Determination of gross heat of combustion (calorific value)
  • EN 13823 Reaction to fire tests for building products - Building products, except floors, which are subject to thermal attack by a single burning element
  • ISO 9239-1 Reaction to fire tests for floors - Part 1: Determination of combustion behavior using a radiant heat source
  • ISO 11925-2 Reaction to fire tests - Flammability of products subject to direct impact of flame - Part 2: Single flame source test

After the materials are tested, they are grouped into three ways:

  • Main classification (A1 highest and F lowest)
  • Smoke classification (s1 highest and s3 lowest)
  • Flame droplet classification (d0 highest and d2 lowest)

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, our organization, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, provides the data obtained from fire classification and reaction to fire tests of building products and building elements within the scope of EN 13501-1 standard. It also provides testing services for classification using
