TS 2827 EN ISO 2781 Rubber, Vulcanized - Determination of Density

In the TS 2827 EN ISO 2781 standard, which is a European standard and published by the International Standards Organization (ISO), two test methods applied for the density determination of solid vulcanized rubbers are explained. These test methods are found to be very important when quality control of rubber compounds and in calculating the amount of rubber required to obtain a given volume of thermoplastic.

TS 2827 EN ISO 2781 Rubber, Vulcanized - Determination of Density

This standard does not cover the determination of relative density, which is expressed as the ratio of the amount of rubber in a certain volume at a certain temperature to the weight of the same volume of pure water.

The determinations to be made according to this standard are carried out by following the gravitational forces under different conditions. However, for convenience, forces are expressed in units of mass.

For the purposes of this standard, density refers to the mass per unit volume of rubber at the specified temperature. This value is expressed as megagrams per cubic meter (Mg/m3).

Rubber is often treated with heat and sulfur during manufacture to improve its physical properties. A process known as vulcanization makes rubber stronger and more elastic. Numerous products are made from vulcanized rubber, from tires and shoes to keypads and gaskets.

Vulcanized rubber is a type of rubber that has been cured using heat and sulfur. It is made by a curing process where the rubber's elastomers harden in response to heat and sulfur. Exposure to heat and sulfur creates new cross-links that make rubber stronger and more elastic. In fact, vulcanized rubber is formed as a result of a multi-stage vulcanization process.

The density of rubber varies depending on the type of rubber. For example, hard rubber has a density of 74 lb/cubic foot, soft commercial rubber has a density of 69 lb/cubic foot, and pure gum rubber has a density of 57-58 lb/cubic foot. Furthermore, the density of the rubber to be used is an important characteristic depending on the product specifications.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for density determination in rubber and vulcanized products, within the scope of TS 2827 EN ISO 2781 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
