In the D41 1368 standard, developed by the PSA Peugeot Citroen group, the second largest automobile manufacturer in Europe, a test method is defined for determining the resistance to tearing of textile product fixing (fixation) systems used in motor vehicles.

The tear strength test method is applied on a defined sample under defined environmental conditions to determine various tensile properties. The main purposes of this test are to draw a stress and strain diagram and to determine the tensile strength and strain at break. This test method is used for comparing materials and for quality control purposes.
Samples for these tests are generally taken from finished parts. The cross-section of the sample should be determined prior to testing. The width of the sample is normally taken from the dimensions of the cutting die, while the thickness is measured using, for example, a defined surface pressing according to the ISO 1923 standard.
Various pneumatic or mechanical sample grips are available to hold the sample. The sample must be gripped firmly so that it can be held securely. Specimen breakage should not occur at the fixation point.
To measure the stress at break, mechanical and optical equipment is used to capture the extension of the sample in a certain gauge length range. These equipments operate mostly automatically. When using mechanical equipment, it is ensured that the weight and friction forces of this equipment remain low compared to the measured forces.
A tear resistance test determines the tear growth of the textile product. When subjected to tensile loads, a stress peak occurs at the end of the crack where material fracture occurs.
Automotive textiles are subjected to tensile, abrasive, bending, compressive, and similar mechanical external forces during daily use, and are exposed to various damages such as tearing, cracking, and bursting. This inevitably affects the durability of textile products. The test method described in the D41 1368 standard determines the basic mechanical properties of the material, such as tear resistance, tensile strength, and bursting resistance.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides tear resistance testing services for fixing (fixation) systems within the scope of D41 1368 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
