In the DIN EN ISO 9227 standard, the basis of which was developed by the German Standardization Institute (DIN) and later republished by the International Standards Organization (ISO), for the assessment of corrosion, acetic acid salt spray (AASS) and copper accelerated acetic acid salt spray (CASS) methods are used. The row neutral salt spray (NSS) test method is also described.

This standard describes the procedure for determining the apparatus, reagents, and resistance of metallic materials with or without permanent or temporary corrosion protection used when applying this test method. This standard also includes a method for assessing the corrosivity of the test cabinet environment.
However, this standard does not describe the sizes or types of test specimens, the exposure time to be used for a particular product, or the interpretation of results. Such details are contained in the appropriate product specifications.
Salt spray tests are found particularly useful for detecting discontinuities such as pores and other defects in certain metallic, organic, anodic oxide and conversion coatings.
Neutral salt spray (NSS) tests are particularly applicable to:
All salt spray methods are suitable for checking that the quality of a metallic material with or without corrosion protection is maintained. They are not intended to be used for comparative testing as a means of ranking different materials against each other by corrosion resistance, or as a means of predicting the long-term corrosion resistance of the material under test.
Briefly, the neutral salt spray (NSS) test method is a quality assurance test performed on coated, painted, electroplated or galvanized material. This test is performed using a standardized salt spray testing machine in which a brine (5 percent sodium chloride) solution is atomized through a spray nozzle using compressed air.
Our organization also provides NSS neutral salt spray tests between corrosion tests in artificial atmospheres, within the scope of ISO 9227-NSS standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
