Developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), the ASTM D6041-18 standard contains requirements for pipes and fittings made from a commercial grade polyester resin manufactured by contact molding for pressures up to 150 psi. This includes requirements for materials, specifications, design, construction, dimensions, tolerances, workmanship and appearance.

This specification does not cover resins other than polyester, reinforcements other than fiberglass, or production methods other than contact moulding.
For the purposes of this standard, the term polyester resin refers to both polyester and vinylester resins.
This standard does not cover the design of pipes and fittings intended for use with liquids heated above their flash point.
Fiberglass tubing is manufactured from glass fiber reinforcements embedded or surrounded by cured thermosetting resin. This composite structure also contains aggregate, granular or platelet fillers, thixotropic agents and pigments or dyes. By choosing the appropriate combination of resin, glass fiber, fillers and design, manufacturers design products with a wide range of features and performance characteristics. The variety and versatility of the materials used in the production of fiberglass pipes over time has given rise to various names for fiberglass pipes. For example, reinforced thermosetting resin pipe, reinforced polymer mortar pipe, glass fiber reinforced epoxy, glass reinforced plastic and glass fiber reinforced plastic.
Fiberglass pipes are also grouped according to their specific manufacturing processes. Generally, the special resin (epoxy, polyester, or vinyl ester) used to manufacture fiberglass pipes is used to classify them. Regardless of the many possible combinations, the most common and useful definition is simply fiberglass pipe. This name encompasses all the various products currently available.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer testing services for contact-molded fiberglass (glass fiber reinforced thermoset resin) corrosion-resistant pipes and fittings under the ASTM D6041-18 standard, utilizing our trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
