The ASTM D445 standard, developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), presents a method for determining the kinematic viscosity of both clear and opaque liquid petroleum products by measuring the flow time of a volume of liquid under gravity through a calibrated glass capillary viscometer. The full name of this standard is: ASTM D445-19a Standard test method for kinematic viscosity of clear and opaque liquids (and calculation of dynamic viscosity).

ASTM D2170 and ASTM D2171 standards are recommended for measuring the kinematic viscosity of bitumen.
The ISO 3104 standard, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), corresponds to the ASTM D445 standard (ISO 3104 Petroleum products - Clear and opaque liquids - Determination of kinematic viscosity and calculation of dynamic viscosity).
The result obtained from the test method presented in the ASTM D445 standard depends on the behavior of the sample and is mainly intended to be applied to fluids where shear stress and shear rates are proportional.
Many petroleum products and some non-petroleum materials are used as lubricants, and correct equipment operation depends on the appropriate viscosity of the fluid used.
In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Viscosity determination (ASTM D 445) services are among the numerous tests performed in this context.
