The ASTM D624-00 standard, published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), describes test methods for measuring a property of conventional vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic elastomers called tear strength. In other words, this standard is a test standard for determining the tear strength of thermoset rubbers, thermoplastic elastomers and silicones. This standard describes the many different types of specimen shapes (Types A, B, C, T and CP) tested on a standard universal testing machine. Generally, materials tested according to this standard are also tested against the ASTM D412 standard to measure tensile strength and elongation (ASTM D412-16 Standard test methods for vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic elastomers - Tension).

The ASTM D624-00 standard measures the force per unit thickness required to tear or initiate a tear in the sample.
Tear strength, used to describe tear resistance, is one of the important mechanical parameters of rubber products. This value is the value of the force required to tear a material and keep the crack going until it fails. Therefore, it is calculated according to the thickness versus the force.
The nature of the tear depends on the way the force is applied and the nature of the material. A product can tear differently depending on how it is pulled, in which direction it is pulled, and whether the weakness radiates from the edge or in the middle.
The tear strength or tear resistance of vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic elastomers is defined as the maximum force required to tear a test specimen in a direction normal (perpendicular) to the stress direction. Tear strength is expressed as force per unit of sample thickness (kilogram force per centimeter).
There are several types of tear specimens with no apparent correlation between the types. Some of these are cut from a starting point to initiate the tear, and some are not. The most commonly used specimen is an unnotched 624 degree angled specimen, which is listed as Die C in ASTM D90.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides standard testing services for the tear strength of traditional vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic elastomers, within the scope of ASTM D624-00 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment. .
