The application defined in the ASTM G153 standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is based on the use of closed carbon arc light and water apparatus, which aims to reproduce the wear effects that occur when materials are exposed to sunlight (directly or through window glass) and moisture as rain or dew in actual use. It includes basic principles and working procedures regarding

The practice defined in the standard, whose full name is “ASTM G153-13 Standard practice for operating closed carbon arc light apparatus for exposure of non-metallic materials,” is limited to procedures for obtaining, measuring, and controlling exposure conditions. A set of exposure procedures is included in the standard annex. However, this practice does not specify the optimal exposure conditions for the material to be tested.
The ASTM G151 standard describes performance criteria for all exposure devices using laboratory light sources. This application replaces the ASTM G23 standard, which describes very specific designs for devices used for carbon arc exposures. The apparatus described in the ASTM G23 standard is within the scope of this application.
During testing, test specimens are exposed to filtered open-flame carbon arc light under controlled environmental conditions. Sample preparation and evaluation of results are covered in methods or specifications for specific materials. General guidance is contained in the ASTM G151 and ISO 4892-1 standard. More specific information on methods for detecting change in properties after exposure and reporting these results is described in ISO 4582 standard.
The use of the carbon arc light apparatus is intended to cause property changes associated with end-use conditions, including the effects of sunlight, humidity and heat. Exposures are not intended to simulate degradation caused by local weather events such as atmospheric pollution, biological attack, and exposure to salt water. Alternatively, the exposure can simulate the effects of sunlight through window glass.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, our organization, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, is the standard for operating the closed carbon arc light apparatus for the exposure of non-metallic materials, within the scope of the ASTM G153-13 standard. It also provides testing services.
