BMW AA-0026 Aging Resistance Test

BMW AA-0026 Aging Resistance Test

Developed by BMW, a multinational vehicle manufacturer company headquartered in Germany, the BMW AA-0026 standard describes a test method for determining the aging resistance of vehicles during their lifetime. According to this standard, aging resistance testing is performed under the following conditions:

  • For short-term conformation test, test temperature 100 degrees, test time 168 hours
  • For outdoor long-term test, test temperature 80 degrees, test time 1008 hours
  • For indoor test, test temperature 80 degrees, test time 48 hours

In general, the accelerated aging or heat aging test is applied to determine the service temperatures of a product or material using heat to accelerate the aging process. This test is often conducted in conjunction with other tests and combines multiple elements to help determine the service life of products and materials in the field. In advanced laboratories, carefully selected physical tests are carried out before and after the accelerated aging process to determine how aging affects different properties of the material or product.

Accelerated weathering testing allows several design iterations, each with test validation, to be performed within a few weeks. Products are well validated before they hit the market. Accelerated aging tests products in environments above their design limits. All test environments are environments where a product is under stress but operating without permanent damage. All equipment ages as a result of the environment it is exposed to during its normal life. To verify product and material reliability, they must be subjected to environments that expose them to external design limits.

As all products age as a function of their usage environment, the vehicle has different aging factors depending on where they are located and how they are maintained. A car has at least five usage environments: the engine compartment, under the dash, passenger compartment, trunk and chassis. In the BMW AA-0026 standard, it accelerates the tests that must be done to determine the aging factor for each product in the usage environment.

Our organization also provides aging resistance testing services within the scope of BMW AA-0026 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
