The MBN 10476 standard, developed by the Mercedes-Benz Group, describes the requirements for visual color assessment of painted bodies, additional parts, and exterior metal panels on automobiles, and defines a test method.

A visual color assessment is based on determining the level of difference between the color of the sample and the standard color. The methods contained in the MBN 10476 standard are designed based on industry and company requirements. Today, many leading companies strive to ensure that the color of products always matches.
Observer requirements are defined and adhered to to ensure the accuracy of results. When performing a color examination of a sample, it should not be evaluated for more than 10 seconds before making a successful / unsuccessful decision, as the sensitivity of the human eye decreases over time. Because viewing direction affects appearance, samples to be evaluated must be prepared and presented consistently. For example, an object viewed from a slightly different angle may cause the object to appear brighter or darker. It is also necessary to position the samples straight or at a 45-degree angle in the light booth and change their position from left to right, top to bottom, to observe any color changes. When comparing a sample to a standard, it is necessary to position them side by side so that they are parallel to each other for better color evaluation. Evaluation should always be done with a common background and the light booth should be kept clean. In order not to affect the appearance of their colors, no other foreign objects should be placed in the light cabinet, except for the samples under evaluation. Because other colors affect color perception.
