SAE USCAR 17 Performance Specification for Automotive RF Connector Systems

SAE USCAR 17 Performance Specification for Automotive RF Connector Systems

In the SAE USCAR 17 standard, developed jointly by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the United States Automotive Research Council (USCAR), at all stages of development, manufacture and field analysis of electrical terminals, connectors and components for coaxial cable connection systems (RF connectors) for road vehicle applications performance tests to be applied are presented.

SAE USCAR 17 Performance Specification for Automotive RF Connector Systems

RF connectors (radio frequency connectors) are connectors designed to operate at radio frequencies for signal transmission of radio, antenna, coaxial cable and similar products. There are many different types of these connectors.

This standard covers radio frequency connectors operating at frequencies from 70 MHz to 3 GHz. This standard does not apply to single conductor wire or twisted pair connection systems.

The SAE USCAR 17 standard, together with the SAE USCAR 18 and SAE USCAR 19 standards, is designed to contain the mechanical and electrical data required to ensure that various manufacturers' assemblies operate reliably in real conditions.

However, there is no specific association test included. End users who are concerned about interchangeability must work directly with their suppliers to address these concerns.

High frequency connectors are used to connect printed circuit boards, cables and devices. These connectors allow very high frequencies to be transmitted. It is very important to maintain a consistent wave resistance (impedance) in the transmission system.

They should always operate reliably, no matter how harsh the conditions. Connectors also have to adapt to ecological and economic conditions, withstand ever-increasing transfer speeds, and consistently meet performance and reliability demands. Such requirements apply to many industries, including communications, medical, industrial, automotive, consumer goods or other high-tech applications.

With advances in communication technology, RF communication systems have today become integral components of the automotive, truck, watercraft, motorcycle and off-road construction markets.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides test services to determine the performance of automotive RF connector systems within the scope of SAE USCAR 17 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
